Laser Eye Surgery Co-Management in Simcoe

Your Laser Eye Surgery Concierge

An ophthalmologist always performs laser eye surgeries, but we have an essential role in your quest for eyewear-free vision. At Simcoe Optometric Clinic, we co-manage your laser eye surgery and make sure you are prepared every step of the way.

We partner with Southwest Ontario’s leading ophthalmologists to provide a seamless transition from exam room to surgery chair. We are here to answer questions for patients that want to put away the glasses or stop using contact lenses.

An Eye Care Partner Before & After

We are committed to your eye wellness before and after your surgery. Wherever you choose to correct your vision, and whatever method you settle on, we want to be a resource throughout. Our co-management process provides clear information for your eye care decision-making.

We must perform a comprehensive eye exam to make sure your eyes are ready for surgery. We must ensure there are no existing health issues that make you too vulnerable for the procedure. Certain eye conditions may make you an unsuitable surgery patient. This can include unstable vision and extreme thinning of the cornea.

Once we know you are a qualified candidate, you’ll probably have many questions. We’ll discuss the risks and benefits and what surgery method makes the most sense for your eyes. Our optometrists understand surgical options and want to give you unbiased advice on successful strategies. If need be, we’ll consult with an eye surgeon to give you more details on laser procedures.

Once you have undergone laser eye surgery, we want to make sure you experience a safe and normal recovery. While ophthalmologists manage surgery-related complications (should they arise), you can always contact our practice with questions or concerns. We want to see you once the surgery is complete and test your vision with your new eyes!

What Do You Know About LASIK?

LASIK has become the most popular refractive surgery in the world – and for good reason. Over 90% of Lasik surgery patients say they are happy with their vision. Many of these people experience 20/20 vision following the surgery, but it’s not right for everyone.

During a LASIK surgery, a flap in the cornea is folded back, allowing a laser to change the shape of your cornea’s inner layers with pre-programmed calculations. This procedure can correct the eyesight of people with myopia, hyperopia, or astigmatism. Successful surgery does require stable vision and healthy eyes. Our optometrists can determine if LASIK is right for you.

Other Procedures We Trust

Simcoe Optometric recommends trusted laser eye surgery procedures respected by the eye care community. We co-manage patients through several types of surgeries, but there are more common methods.

Photorefractive keratectomy (PRK) is a laser-assisted technology that also changes the shape of the cornea. In this procedure, the top layer of the cornea is completely removed, and a precise laser fixes deeper layers of the cornea.

A refractive lens exchange works by replacing the eye’s natural lens with an intraocular lens (IOL). The lens may be replaced to correct refractive errors or to eliminate cataracts.
